What Becomes Clear When We Pause Long Enough to Look
Jun 11, 2026
Today was a really good day.
I spent it brainstorming and business planning with Lucy from 3Cs Consultancy and Steve from Resourceful People Group. It was one of those rare days where there was space for honest conversation, big thinking and deliberate reflection. Not just on business, but on life, family, future and the people we most want to serve.
There is something deeply valuable about sitting with good people and thinking properly.
As we talked, we began to look at the industries we have each worked in: policing, blue-chip organisations such as JLR and Vodafone, private equities, US organisations, manufacturing, tech, travel, education, startups, charities, financial services and media.
When you see it written down like that, it is a lot isn’t it?
And yet, if we had not taken the time to stop and really look, I am not sure we would have fully noticed the breadth of experience between us. It’s often the way. We are so close to our own work, so busy doing, delivering and moving on to the next thing, that we forget to recognise the depth of what we know.
Today reminded me how important it is to pause long enough to take stock. And to be with people who help lift you up.
Not from ego. Not to boast. But to notice. To honour experience. To recognise patterns. To think more intentionally about what comes next.
In June, we will be together at the CIPD Festival of Work Expo in London, and today felt like a gentle but important reminder of what is possible when people come together with openness, honesty and a shared desire to make a meaningful difference.
So maybe this is the real reflection.
Sometimes, clarity does not come from doing more.
Sometimes, it comes from stopping long enough to really see what is already there.
And perhaps that is worth asking ourselves more often:
When did I last give myself the time to properly notice the value, experience and possibility already in front of me?
